5 Things Every Mum Needs at Night…

After a day that started at the crack of dawn (or if you're a mum of a newborn, at 4.30 am possibly), then got busier and crazier with the school-run and toddler groups and tantrums and after-school classes, and then ended in bedtime drama, you are no doubt exhausted. Not just physically but more so mentally. But, you do not want to go to bed, because hallelujah, you've finally got some time to yourself. Some quiet time with no Ben 10 or Paw Patrol blaring on the TV, no baby crying, no threenager whining. Housework and blog work remains – it never ends – but that can wait until tomorrow. For now, this time is yours to enjoy. And these five things are all a mum needs to wind down every night…

1. Wine
If alcohol is not your thing, there's nothing more comforting than sitting down with a hot cup of tea – and enjoying it HOT!
(For the record, I am no alcoholic, though I must confess I am currently having an affair of sorts with wine and coffee – you can read all about it here).

My go-to glass after a tough day parenting
2. The Apprentice (or your fav TV show/box set)
I'm a self-confessed Apprentice fan (Wednesday nights come second close to Friday nights this time of the year). Seeing your favourite show or box set (or mindless TV) is quite relaxing. Because a) you are actually allowed to watch TV without your littles stealing the remote and b) you are watching something other than CBeebies or Amazon Prime Kids!
3. Snuggly winter wear

4. Chocolate, or a chocolate dessert
Little Man gets a treat whenever he's good. So why can't Mummies get treats for doing the toughest job on the planet – parenting? (Well because then Mummy puts on weight and gets depressed and then eats more chocolate because she's depressed). Anyways, I digress. A piece (or two or three) of the stuff melts the days tantrums/ screaming/ blah blah blah away. And yes, in case you missed it, I'm also a chocoholic!
5. Social Media

Yes to all of these but especially the trashy tv. I love this time of year because we have so much trash to watch. The Apprentice is amazing for making me shout at the telly! The Bruge one, oh my, I think it might have actually raised my stress levels! #FridayFrolics
Nicole
Agree with you on that. Imagine walking around the hospital for half an hour and not finding the entrance. Or even asking anyone! I would've jumped into the canal if I were in that tour:)

That sounds like bliss. My kids are at my parents next weekend and the husband is out for the evening. I cannot tell you how excited I am about having the house to myself and doing whatever I want for a whole evening. It involves everything from your list! Thanks for linking up to #FridayFrolics
Nicole
Ooooh lucky you!
Tuning Up In Devon
I'm loving The Apprentice at the moment – it's real popcorm for the brain! Also a great lover of slipper boots, no one likes cold ankles! #fridayfrolics
Nicole
Popcorn for the brain hahaha love that! Thanks for popping over!

Thanks much:)

I love winter wear and chocolate! I don't drink alcohol at all though. I'm currently obsessed with the US version of Shameless, but upset that our Netflix is two seasons behind the US! Thanks so much for joining us for #FridayFrolics
Nicole
You sound sorted, then:) Enjoy!!!

I couldn't agree more. I sit up far too late every night just so I can have some me time. My eyes may be bloodshot from tiredness but I'm not giving in until I have watched the appropriate amount of senseless, mind-numbing tv and drank at least one cup of HOT tea! I'm also currently addicted to Tunnocks tea cakes so I have one of those every night to go with the hot tea. And because today is Friday (hurray!) the wine is coming out tonight too….Happy Friday!
Nicole
Ah, hot tea with some cake and a TV show or senselessly scrolling Facebook – my ideal bedtime routine (no matter how exhausted I am!!!)

Ear plugs. My other half actually bought ear plugs. So that our LO doesn't wake him up! #ItsOK
Nicole
Ha, yes, that's a good point too:)
Raisie Bay (@RaisieBay)
yes to all of these, although the wine is reserved for weekends, it's hot chocolate in the week. I love trashy tv and a bit of crochet in peace.

Ooooh I love hot chocolate too. Even a nice peaceful cup of hot tea – uninterrupted – does the trick for me!

Hell yes to all of this! Especially the wine and cozy winter pjs. Being a mom is tough and there are small things we all look forward to at the end of the day!
