Christmas Delights: Prestige Christmas Hampers Review

posted in: Reviews | 20

It can never be too early to start celebrating Christmas, can it? Who doesn’t like the cheer and lights, the mulled wine and Christmas pudding? I for sure do! So when Prestige Hampers sent me one of their Luxury Christmas Hampers to review, I was thrilled. It was a valid excuse to start feasting on goodies, and I could also test how good these hampers would be for gifting to others – a win-win here!

The hamper arrived in a well-sealed big cardboard box, and nothing inside was damaged at the least. On opening it, I was pleasantly surprised to find a gorgeous hand-made wicker box designed like a trunk that housed all the items inside. I thought that was very classy (and quite cool – I quite like the trunk idea – different from the usual baskets one receives as hampers).

I was given the Traditional Gift Basket for reviewing and it contained the following items:

Water Stop Station Chardonnay 75cl
Water Stop Station Shiraz 75 cl
Matthew Walker Classic Christmas Pudding
Iced Fruit Cake
Mackays Christmas Preserve with Mulled Wine
Mackays Christmas Marmalade with Cranberries
Shortbread Festive Shapes
Red Velvet Crunch Biscuits
Walkers Milk, White and Dark Chocolate Classics
Dark Chocolate Bar
Handmade Smoked Oatcakes
Tomato, Basil and Mozzarella Yorkshire Crisps
English Tea Shop English Breakfast Tea

The Wines

As luck would have it, we were hosting a party the day after the hamper arrived, so I got to open (and taste) both the wines. The Chardonnay was lovely (I’m a Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc type of girl, so I know a good one when I drink one) and I did sneak in a glass of the Shiraz as well. Thumbs up to both – both were good quality wines.

The Christmas Specialities

I couldn’t wait till Christmas (or even December) to dig into the Christmas pudding (it was too tempting and I had to give a fair review, right?). It was as all Christmas puddings should be – heavenly!

My four-year-old cake-o-holic and I have been tucking in at the extremely rich and fruity Iced Fruit Cake too – goes lovely with the English Breakfast Tea that came in the hamper too.

I prefer marmalade to preserve and this one is lovely, with a slightly tangier taste courtesy of the cranberries inside.

The preserve is a perfect Christmas gift; the mulled wine gives it that extra kick!

The Goodies

You can never go wrong with shortbread and this pack that comes in festive shapes is perfect for adding that Christmasy touch.

The Red Velvet Crunch Butter Biscuits are delicious – how can you go wrong if you combine shortbread with red velvet and white chocolate!!! (I guiltily confess that at the time of writing this post there are only two biscuits left…)

The Savouries

I had to make a special mention of the handmade smoked oatcakes – the smoked flavour makes them a perfect base for cheeses. A delightful starter for your Christmas party (or a healthy anytime snack when you shouldn’t be having more of the red velvet biscuits!)

And cherry on the cake – I can keep that gorgeous wicker box even after the goodies are over. Mine is proudly housed in my study, and has become an unconventional showpiece.

I was extremely pleased with this hamper, in both its presentation and its contents and would definitely recommend it as a Christmas gift (I’ll be placing some orders soon).

Disclosure: I was gifted the Traditional Gift Basket in exchange for an honest review; all opinions expressed are entirely my own.

Dawn, I kid you not, those were D.I.V.I.N.E. My personal favourite from the hamper. I mean – butter shortbread, with white chocolate pieces, and a red-velvet covering (still droooooling)!!!

So agree with you on the digging around for the surprises bit. That’s the non-edible fun of a hamper:)
