Will your kid get hooked on to Tom?

Have I got news for you! If your kid is the telly-loving, YouTube-watching kind (I’m guessing that’s 95 per cent, and that’s on the lower end of the spectrum [icon icon=icon-meh size=14px color=#000 ]), then today’s a special day for them. A new interactive website and accompanying YouTube channel – Tom’s Storytime – that is being launched today, could just be the answer to those “I’m bored” moments.

First things first. Who’s Tom, you ask? A father of two who was inspired after making up lots of stories for his two children, and eventually thought he should write some of these down. And so the idea of Tom’s Storytime was born. “My kids were the inspiration and would often give me titles and it’s them who I trial the stories on too.”

So, what’s it all about?

INTERACTIVE WEBSITE

The website www.tomsstorytime.com is divided into three segments: Sprites (age 0-6), Adventurers (3-8) and Interactive (all ages). Each segment has age-appropriate YouTube videos (with more in the making as you read this), each with their own theme and story.

So pop over today to see Release of Bug Hunt (Sprites), Davey Chicken (Adventurers) and A Jungle Adventure (Interactive). Tomorrow holds another surprise for the littles while the weekend has more in store for older kids.

What makes it interactive?

It’s not just all visual here; kids can actually be a part of the videos. The interactive stories will engage with kids asking them to repeat actions and get them active. They can even hover over certain areas to see things light up and pop out.

Each video will open to the storyteller sat on the storychair (sounds like a cool throne, eh?!). “The whole idea is to get children more engaged with stories,” says Tom.

New videos will be released every three days, so there will be no dearth of edutainment in your house.

BOOKS

There’s more. There will also be 12 picture books (however, only two are available at the moment) which will be available in paperback on Amazon. You will be directed to them on the website after each story.
