Tips to make you fall (back) in love with your home

Is your home somewhere that you love spending time? Too many people have fallen out of love with their home, and either don’t have the money, time or inclination to do anything about it. The problem with this is that it means that you are either not spending as much time at home as you should be to make the most out of it, or you aren’t happy when you are there. Either option is a bad one, and you need to make some active changes. In this article, I’ll be giving you a few ideas on how to update and refresh your home and make it a place you love once again.

Update your decor

The first thing that you should be doing is updating your decor. If your decor is outdated, or it isn’t what you want, then you are never going to look around your home and see it as beautiful. It’s not difficult to change the decor of a house, it just takes a little while to sort out exactly what it is that you want. We do recommend that you sit down and plan the process rather than just buying whatever you see and like, as you don’t know what is going to go together until you see it all in a bigger picture.

You can get inspiration from places like Pinterest, from interior design magazines or just take a stroll around a furniture and home decor store to get some fresh ideas.

Consider a garden room

If you want to give your home a touch of new, or just want something a little bit different, consider installing a garden room. There are a number of uses to a garden room and the benefits (apart from how lovely it looks and how much value it adds to your property) are many:

  • It could be an outdoor lounge area or a place for you and your family to relax and chill out. A comfortable sofa, a TV screen, perhaps even a mini-bar and you’ve got the perfect chill-out zone in your own garden
  • Some people prefer to make it into a playroom for their children – so the house is free of toys, video game consoles and noise!
  • Others convert it into a gym room, so they have a dedicated space with no distractions to work out and train everyday
  • And with working-from-home having become more common since the pandemic, people also use their garden room as a home office. Garden rooms are so easy to install and come equipped with all the modern amenities (from insulated walls to heating) that it makes a perfect home office… away from the home!

Sort out any pest problems

Do you have a pest problem in your home? It would make sense that you don’t like being in your home if you know that there are little creepy crawlies roaming around. Ants are a common problem in homes, and so are termites so you might want to keep your eye out for any signs of this. If the issue gets too bad then you are going to need to look into termite problems or treatment for whatever type of pest it is. Once they have been dealt with, your home can go back to feeling like somewhere that you love to spend time in.

Get going with all that pending DIY

Finally, you might want to think about completing those DIY jobs that you are always talking about doing. The jobs that you have been telling yourself that need to be done but that you have no motivation for are the very ones that are causing problems right now. Clear out the gutters, fix the roof, sort out the garden, make sure that the kitchen cupboard isn’t hanging off and whatever else you need to do. Make a list and work your way through it, feeling better with every item that you check off.

Work on your kerb appeal

We don’t always realise this but we often tend to ignore the front of our house – we let the weeds and moss grown in the driveway, don’t mow the front lawn as often as we would the garden and generally leave it looking rather shabby. Which makes the first impression on coming home not quite ‘homely’. Some small changes could make a big difference to how you feel about your own home.
