Time-saving tips for the morning school run

Racing against the clock in the morning is something that parents are used to doing on a daily basis. No matter how many alarms you set, you still end up veering dangerously close to the 9 am school bell. To help you and your child be up and ready on time, I have a list of time-saving tips for the morning school run from an independent school in Surrey.

No-fuss breakfast

A no-fuss breakfast is exactly what you need to spare yourself time and get out of the door on time. It’s the most important meal of the day and should not be skimped on at all, or worse – missed entirely. Easy to prepare breakfast meals like cereal, overnight oats or these nutritious banana-oat pancakes which can be stored in the fridge, can help to ensure that your child gets the nutrients that they need whilst saving you precious time that would otherwise be lost to cooking.

Create a station

Anything that you can do the night before will save you time and make life a little easier in the morning. A station next to the front door where your child drops everything after school such as their book bag, jumper and so on can help. It ensures that nothing gets left behind and that you don’t need to make a U-turn home.

Create a routine… and stick to it!

A few days into the half-term break and you will find that everything has gone awry. Sleep schedules shift slightly which makes for a harder first day back. To not fall victim to this it’s important to stick to your child’s existing routine as best as possible so that it’s not so much of a shock to your systems on Monday morning. If things do slip, don’t worry – you can settle your child into their old habits a few days before they have to go back.

Also create a routine for the morning so that your child knows exactly what to do – be it breakfast, getting ready for school or wearing their shoes. This saves you precious time reminding them to do this, that and the other.
