The benefits of arts and crafts for children
There’s nothing that a parent dreads more than having to clean up after a session of arts and crafts. However, the benefits that children get from engaging in art and craft are worth the mess as it can help them leaps and bounds in their development. Fine motor skills (that help children to develop the essential skills needed to pick things up and grip) are among the most important developmental skill achieved through art and craft. I have teamed up with a private school in Kent to share more on the benefits of arts and crafts for children.
Develops fine motor skills
As touched on earlier, arts and crafts can help children with their fine motor skills. These are the skills needed to move the smaller muscle tissues of the body (commonly found in the hands, fingers and toes). They are what helps us to do day-to-day activities like unscrewing bottles and picking up spoons.
Boosts creativity
As children experiment with arts and crafts supplies, they can exercise their creativity and start to form their own innovative ideas. This not only helps them to exercise their artistic talents but also become better thinkers as creativity is needed to problem solve.
Helps manage emotions
Art is expressive and gives children an outlet to express their thoughts and feelings. It can help them to manage their emotions, stress levels and become happier within themselves. In fact, colouring is often prescribed to those with anxiety as it helps one feel calmer and less anxious.
