Parents need ‘time out’ too (but it’s not what you think!!!)

Whether you are a new parent or have been there before and got the t-shirt, it can be hard work. Parents to newborns all the way up to teens are constantly exhausted and despite what people tell you it doesn’t always get easier. There are many challenges you will face on your journey through parenthood, and some of these can cause immense stress and put pressure on not only you but your relationships as well.

It is important to remember that you are working as a team, you and your partner may clash at times but you will get through and do it together in the end. You may both be at the end of your tether with parenting and you might just need a break every now and again, and that’s OK – you are only human, and believe it or not, you are entitled to a break.

Here are 3 things that you can do, either together or individually, when you need to take some time out for yourself or as a couple.

Date nights at the movies

Date nights to the cinema are a fantastic way to have two hours or so alone with your partner, and is a short enough time to hire a babysitter if you need to. A film can transport you to a whole different world, one that is different from the reality of day-to-day living. It’s a good way to tune out from parenting and just chill for a few hours.

Restaurant dates

If you prefer your date nights to be quieter, where you and your other half get a chance to talk and reconnect, then a nice romantic dinner at a restaurant is perfect. Take the extra effort to get dressed up, and feel glamorous and gorgeous (something you don’t often do as a mum). If you’re adventurous, you can even try new places every once in a while.

If you have a few hours free between work, you and your partner could also have a day date at your favourite restaurant while the kids are at school.

Road trips

Road trips can of course be done by the whole family but they can be hard work and very stressful. It is much easier to pack up just the two of you and head off on the road somewhere, just for a couple of hours, or if you’re feeling rebellious a whole weekend while the kids are with the family.

If you’ll are the adventurous kind, then relive those fun, carefree days of heading off somewhere on your motorbike. Hop on the back, feel the wind through your hair and pick a destination. If you do choose to use a motorbike, ensure you wear the correct safety gear with motorbike boots as well. To find the best pair of motorbike boots take a look at this website

So whatever ticks your boxes and makes you feel recharged and reconnected, make sure you take some time out for yourself and your partner.
