5 signs your child needs a tutor

As parents, we can’t expect our children to be brilliant in all of their academic subjects. Sure, we can encourage them to work hard and put in the effort, but kids often tend to be more gifted in one subject over another. However, if your child appears to be struggling across the board, it might be time to consider hiring a private tutor to support them at home

Private tutoring such as that offered by Tutorax is great because it provides your child with one-to-one attention, meaning their sessions can be specifically tailored to the areas of their subjects that they find most challenging. In normal classroom environments, students must work at the pace of the teacher, so there’s rarely an opportunity to spend longer studying certain topics. I have teamed up with an international school in the UK to share the signs that your child might need a tutor.

1. Poor grades

This is perhaps the most obvious sign that your child needs a tutor, but poor grades might also just be a glitch. However, if your child is consistently performing poorly over several months, or their grades are gradually slipping, they probably need some additional support

2. Behavioural issues

If your child is usually quite well-behaved and their attitude suddenly takes a turn for the worse, it might be because they are struggling at school in some way. Speak to their teachers and find out if their bad behaviour is consistent at school, and hopefully you can get to the bottom of it together.

3. Avoiding school

Does your child regularly come up with excuses as to why they don’t want to attend school? If so, it might be because there’s a problem. It could be because they’ve fallen out with their friends or maybe its because they’re finding school too difficult, in which case a private tutor might help them get up to speed.

4. Procrastination

If your child tries to put off doing their homework at all costs, it might be because they find it too hard. When they do finally get around to doing it, keep an eye on them – if they seem constantly confused, frustrated or overly emotional, it’s probably because the work is too challenging.

5. Dwindling confidence

When children show signs of low self-esteem, it might be because they’re having a hard time at school and feel embarrassed about it. A private tutor will be able to help them with their confidence by focussing on areas of their education that they’re struggling with.
