3 fuss-free and quick sweet treats (that can also be healthy)
While it isn’t generally a great idea to indulge your sweet tooth everytime you get a craving, a treat once in a while is absolutely fine (and needed!!!). In fact, there is a theory that the human brain has developed to enjoy sweet foods because, once upon a time, we believed foods that were sweet were safe to eat. So if you try to cut sweetness out from your diet altogether, it’s going to be a difficult battle.
Of course, no matter how popular baking and baking shows have become in recent years, it is a fact that it’s not always a simple process. It’s often time-consuming, usually messy, and it’s hard to create just enough of something to satisfy a craving – meaning that those of us who love to bake will then be faced with the calorie toll of eating what we’ve created. However, there are ways to enjoy quick, simple sweet treats in more reasonable quantities – as the below will demonstrate.
Greek yoghurt (with honey and toppings)
Yoghurt is healthy and has all the good stuff, but let’s be honest, it’s not exactly dessert material! However, Greek yoghurt is a little different. For starters, it’s creamier, which makes it feel more like a dessert, and it’s also a little sweeter than ordinary yoghurt.
If you want to make a (healthy) sweet treat out of it, just add some honey (or another topping of your choice), some fruits and a sprinkling of nuts and voila, you have the most luxurious quick treat imaginable!
Milkshake
A good milkshake is refreshing and indulgent at the same time. However, they’re not cheap when bought from fast food joints and ice cream parlours, so having the supplies to make your own milkshake recipe come to life is a good idea. You can use a basic recipe and brighten it up with your own little touches – and you can substitute with different types of milk or ice cream to make it healthier and accommodate dietary requirements. You may need to play around with it to get the right consistency: too thin and it’s like drinking milk, too thick and you’ve basically created a sundae.
Snowballs
If you grew up with a bakery nearby, you probably have experienced a version of the snowball – dense cake covered in marshmallow and coconut. A more indulgent version gaining in popularity these days involves taking small scoops of ice cream – any flavour, but vanilla works best – and rolling them in desiccated coconut. You can then put the coconut-covered balls back in the freezer until ready to eat – just five minutes will be enough to refreeze them and make them less messy.
