To dad, with love: Father's Day gift-guide (plus discount codes and a giveaway!)

posted in: Lifestyle | 20

Dads – a daughter's best friend and a son's first hero. The father of your children. The backbone of a family. So many reasons to celebrate Father's Day and show dads just how much we appreciate them. And love them.

Now we know men aren't as easy to shop for as women are (read my Mother's Day gift guide for inspiration), but with a little help from some lovely brands and a little bit of thinking-outside-the-box, I've compiled this handy gift guide to help you make your dad's special day extra special…

Personalised 'letterbox' cake

Let's start with cake (is there a better way to start anything, really?!) But this is no ordinary cake, it's Bakerdays 'letterbox cake' personalised for Father’s Day. What's that you say, a letterbox cake??? Yes, this cake can literally fit through your letterbox, so why not surprise dad and send him a personalised cake via post? (Bet he'll be expecting the postman to deliver a card!)

There are loads of designs on their website (which can be further personalised) and lots of options from chocolate to sponge to lemon drizzle and even gluten free, wheat free or dairy free. The cake is delivered on your chosen date, arriving in an adorable letterbox-sized tin box.

(I received a cake – pic below – a little earlier to give it a go and I must admit I am in love with the concept – so novel, yet so practical. The cake itself was delicious and oh-so-fresh!)

Prices range from £14.99-£17.99.

What's more, Bakerdays are very sweetly offering my readers (that's you guys) 15% off their cakes – just use this code to get your discount – TALESFROMMAMAVILLE15.

Personalised engraved watch

Watches always make for lovely gifts. But what if you could make yours extra special (and unique) for dad? These engraved watches make for a perfect personalised gift. I was given the wrist watch featured below with a timer bezel design and an option to add a message for review, and I'm extremely pleased with it (I can't wait to gift it to dad…). Priced at £44.99, this stylish plated alloy wrist watch features a full quartz movement and a rotatable bezel with minute marks and a luminous marker. It looks classy and smart, yet has that bespoke element to it because of the personalised engraved message at the back.

I love that the special message is engraved on the back rather than on the face of the watch – after all, some things are not meant to be read by everyone, correct? You can have up to 4 lines of text with 17 characters on each line; enough for a heartfelt message. There are also pocket watches available with the same feature, so there really are lots of options!

And if watches are not dad's thing, then check out these other Personalised Fathers Day Gifts that include photo frames, alcohol gift sets, bracelets and penknives.

A canvas that speaks a thousand words

We all have that one special picture with our dad, one that takes us back to our childhood, re-ignites some happy memories or simply speaks a thousand words. Why not blow it up onto a canvas and gift it to dad – it's a keepsake he will cherish forever.

And with CanvasChamp, you won't even have to break your pocket. They offer a range of custom and speciality canvases, acrylic and metal prints (as well as other products like photo pillows and engraved plaques) at exceptionally low prices.

I was given a canvas to review (I chose Little Man's best picture so far; a perfect gift for Hubster on Father's Day) and I'm so pleased with the product. The online order process was so simple and efficient, giving me options to choose size, wrap, border, how I'd like to display it and even colour finishing/ photo retouching and effects.

So if you want to give a gift that dad will treasure forever, consider a lovely canvas. Or try your luck and win one with the fantastic giveaway at the end of this post!

Clothes

If you think clothes shopping for men is boring, check out these men's shirts by Charles Tyrwhitt. There's something for every kind of dad here, from colourful to sober and casual to more formal. Above all, there's quality and class guaranteed.

Prints, Photo Books, Posters, Magnets

If your dad (or you) are more the sentimental type, then why not go with something more personal and heartfelt, like say a photo book of your most special father-son/ father-daughter moments? Or some of those memorable moments imprinted on fridge magnets, perhaps? Printiki offers a range of products on their site (check out their Instagram too where they share lots of ideas and inspiration).

Psst… There's also a giveaway at the end of this post. Be sure to enter to get a chance to win 30 free prints!

Photographic keyrings/ cufflinks

Photogem make lovely personalised photographic jewellery and gifts. Choose from a sterling silver keyring (featured below), sterling silver cufflinks or locket cufflinks, with photos in either colour or black and white. A simple, practical and touching gift for dad.

Some not-so-ordinary gifts…

For those who simply cannot figure out what to get dad, why not get some inspiration at Gifts Less Ordinary? They have a range of unique gifts from a Personalised Cufflink Tray and Watch Stand or a Personalised Phone and Coin Tray (both very useful gifts) to a Personalised Daddy and Me Portrait (I love this one!) or a Daddy Bear Apron if dad's the chef in the family, and lots lots more!

Love these gift ideas. Especially the printed photos. These days everything is digital and we no longer print so this perfect #globalblogging

    • Nicole

Thank you Noleen. I'm a huge fan of printed photographs and still print some of the best ones – there's no guarantee with technology and there's nothing like seeing a photo in actual print, years later, in an album…

Would love to make a photo book up for my dad, such a lovely unique gift .x

  5. Jaki

Lovely selection of gifts. I never know what to buy my Dad, or indeed my little boy's Dad. Why are men so hard to buy for?! Thanks for sharing with #TriumphantTales, we'd love to see you back again on Tuesday!

    • Nicole

Yes Jaki, men are difficult to buy for, such limited options. But I'm glad you've got some ideas from this post!
