Taxes: More important than you think!
You would think that in the 21st Century taxes would be abolished. The tax has a long history and a lot of people don’t believe their taxes go towards anything that directly helps them. However, it is still important to pay your tax and there are several reasons why. Paying taxes is seen as a duty for all members of the community and people are expected to pay different amounts depending on their income. This is to make everything fair, as the government requires a percentages of your household income to make positive improvements to your general environment. Here are the reasons you need to pay your taxes.
Taxes pay for emergency services
Taxes fund services such as the Police and Fire Service, services you can’t buy into that are paid for by the government. These services are crucial to our lives as a society and if the funding of them is cut, that means we won’t have the same protections that we do now. There are lots of contentious issues around the funding of these public services, however, they are still integral to protect our lives as a whole. Without them, we could lose our property or be treated incorrectly and there would be nobody to help us in those emergencies. In some countries tax also funds Healthcare for those who need it most. This shows that taxes are expected of us to help vulnerable members of our community.
… And fund public services
Have you ever wondered who pays for the library or road maintenance? That’s you, through your taxes. So not only does the money we pay fund emergency services, but it also funds local areas for us and our families to enjoy. Many play parks are maintained through our taxes, and play parks are paid for in the same way. This is why it’s so important for us to look after our local environment and look after the things that our taxes pay for. Usually, if there is a pothole we can speak to our local representative who can put forward a case to get that filled with the tax money. Again these features aren’t ours solely but for our whole community. In this capitalist world that we live in we can’t just keep everything for ourselves as that would be unfair, we have to be able to give to others in our community to gain something in return. Think of the pay it forward principle.
How to make paying your taxes easier?
Doing our taxes can be extremely hard and very boring, but we must do them. Nowadays, there are loads of software and apps, such as Pop Business, that help us track our expenditure and income for this purpose. Some types of software even do the calculations for us which saves us time, energy and stress. These types of software also mean that we may get money back more quickly if we have overpaid our taxes. So the next time you ponder about your taxes, think again!
