How do you keep your child safe on the Internet?

Today is Safer Internet Day – a day that I feel is far more important than some of the other senseless ‘International days’ the commercial world now celebrates. Because, whether we like it or not, the Internet is the future and our children are going…

Child-friendly recommendations by parents for parents: Kinfoapp Review

Are you the kind of parent that always reads reviews before purchasing a product, be it a toy or a particular brand of clothes, or reads up on a restaurant or theme park before visiting? If you are nodding along, then I suspect you would…

Choosing the professional you need in just a few clicks: Bidvine Review

As a mum, I find that I never have enough time. If I’m not ferrying Little Man to school/ playdates/ swimming lessons, I’m sat entertaining him at home. Then there’s housework and cooking and laundry. My blog takes up all the free time I get.…

About Me

Former Lifestyle Journalist, now a work-from-home Lifestyle and Parenting Blogger chronicling my experiences and unarticulated thoughts about Motherhood and Family Lifestyle in this blog. I fancy the absurd, the unusual and the out-of-the-ordinary… as I pen my thoughts, I realise that motherhood is a little slice of each. So here I am, cracking the motherhood code, one day at a time...

YOU GOT THIS MUM👍 This is my chosen quote for YOU GOT THIS MUM👍

This is my chosen quote for this week's #motivationalmumday post. Because it's so true - and I am speaking from experience.

Motherhood changes a woman not just physically but emotionally and psychologically as well. And it's not just the post-partum hormones I'm talking about; it's a lifelong internal shift.

Motherhood makes a woman more powerful. Motherhood gives her strength she didn't know she had within her. Motherhood ties her in emotional knots and frees her spirit all at the same time.

Take childbirth for instance. Despite the pain and (sometimes) trauma of childbirth, a mother still chooses to go through it again. Despite her fear of childbirth or needles or hospitals, she endures and overcomes.

Then there's the emotional turmoil a mother endures throughout her life:

💞 Of putting her child first; yet not losing her own identity
💞 Of putting her own fears aside, to ensure her child doesn't imbibe those same fears
💞 Of being the disciplinarian and the 'strict' mum; yet also being the shoulder her child cries on
💞 Of the constant #mumguilt
💞 Of having a love so deep and so unfiltered, that the thought of losing it scares her
💞 Of, as the popular quote goes, allowing a piece of her heart to go walking around outside her body...

Motherhood indeed is about learning about strengths you didn't know you had, and dealing with fears you didn't know existed...

(Disclaimer: I by no means am implying that women who choose not to become mothers, or perhaps cannot, are less powerful in any way. This post is not about that).

FAKE IT TILL YOU MAKE IT... I've often heard this FAKE IT TILL YOU MAKE IT...

I've often heard this mantra, and apparently a lot of successful people have used it.

Some use it as part of their daily affirmations, and put it to practice. Others use it as an extension of their visualisation/manifestation process: if you really desire something, act like you already have it/ possess it/ are it, till you get there, aka Fake It Till You Make It.

What are your thoughts/ experiences on this? Do you do this, and if so, has it helped you reach your goal?

Also, just thinking aloud, how can you fake something intangible (happiness/wealth/relationship) when you lack it? Thoughts...

(I thought this image to be symbolic of this post as I absolutely love pretty plants and flowers dotting my home but I have the most un-green fingers and zero patience. So, I 'fake it' with a bunch of artificial flowers instead!!!).🌻🌷🌼🪴

SAY CHEEEEEEEEEESE! (AWESOME GIVEAWAY... READ ON. SAY CHEEEEEEEEEESE!
(AWESOME GIVEAWAY... READ ON...)

For those who don't know this about me - I love the 3 foods with 'Ch' - Cheese, Chocolates and Cheesecake! So when The Chuckling Cheese Co. @thechucklingcheese kindly sent me one of their hampers to review, I was delighted!

And, it didn't disappoint at all! While there's a large choice of hampers and cheese boxes on their website - www.chucklingcheese.co.uk - I opted for the 'Build Your Own 5 Cheese Truckle Hamper' (the same one you can win - details further down). You can choose 5 cheeses, 2 chutneys and a pack of crackers.

There's a selection of cheeses from blue cheeses to vintage cheddars to Mexican Spicy and Rum & Pineapple, but definitely give the Orange & Whisky and the Gin & Tonic cheeses a try - both of them are absolutely delicious!!! I grate the Orange & Whisky on my walnut salad, which gives it a sweetish flavour. And the Gin & Tonic pairs very well with strawberry jam!

Their signature Truffle Cheese is fabulous as well, and tastes divine on it's own as well as on their Cheddar and Onion Chutney crackers. The Black Charcoal Cheese is well, actually black, and while it takes some getting used to the sight of it, it's a perfect cheddar!

The Sunday Roast goes perfectly with plain crackers, as it has a strong aftertaste of garlic, rosemary and black pepper.

MOTIVATIONAL 'MUM'DAY... This quote sums up mothe MOTIVATIONAL 'MUM'DAY...

This quote sums up motherhood perfectly. We don't have a manual for motherhood, and no matter how many books or articles we read on the subject while pregnant, we are never completely prepared for what hits us when we become mums.🤰

The challenges, the struggles, the rollercoaster of emotions we feel. As soon as we master one stage, our babies jump onto another and we are clueless all over again. 🙄

But we never give up. Even if we have no idea what we are doing or how we are supposed to be doing things, we go about doing them anyways. Every day we jump out of a plane and go about tending to our kids' parachutes. Being their support system, their knights in shining armour, the shoulders for them to cry on, the ones who kiss their 'boo-boos' away...💞

And we don't always succeed. Most days we fail. At something. Some of us aren't the Pinterest-perfect crafting and baking mums. While some of us need to put work over family sometimes. Then we let mumguilt take over and beat ourselves about it.

Yet, we get up everyday and try again. Try harder. We fail. We fall. But we get up and get on with our job. Because motherhood doesn't have it any other way...

So mamas...

🏅Don't beat yourselves up over the small fails
🥉It's ok to not be ok sometimes - we all have our down days
🏅Don't let mumguilt ruin the joy of motherhood for you. Trust me, what we overthink, our kids have long forgotten
🥉You don't have to be perfect at everything to be the perfect mum - in your child's eyes, you are already perfect.
🏅Just be you and do motherhood your way - what works for Janet and Sally might not work for you or your child.

All us mums deserve a 🏆 for showing up and being the best that we can everyday, and that's what really matters.

MOTIVATIONAL 'MUM'DAY I'm kickstarting a new seri MOTIVATIONAL 'MUM'DAY

I'm kickstarting a new series - Motivational 'Mum'day - where I will feature an uplifting, motivational quote related to #motherhood every Monday, for mums who need a pick-me-up every now and then.

Motherhood is hard, and mothers often aren't appreciated enough. The constant work we do as mothers is either taken for granted or not considered as 'work' because it isn't a paid job. Yet, we go above and beyond for our precious children, making sure they are safe, happy, secure. We sacrifice our bodies, our priorities, our careers and our comforts to ensure our children's needs are met.

And yet, we become victims of 'mom-shaming'. Of comparing ourselves to other more seemingly successful mums. Of motherhood itself. STOP!!! Stop the mom-shaming and stop the comparisons. Every mother has her strengths and her weaknesses, none of us are perfect; yet, every mother is perfect in the eyes of her child. And at the end of the day, that's all that matters.

So let go of your fears of failing at mummying. Let go of that #mumguilt. Let go of mom-shaming and just embrace motherhood for the beauty and wonder that it is.
FINDING JOY IN THE ABSTRACT... I love art. A good FINDING JOY IN THE ABSTRACT...

I love art. A good painting or photograph instantly gets my attention. And while I confess I'm terrible at drawing/ painting myself, I do have an eye for good art. 🖼🎨

Abstract art has always fascinated me. The randomness of the painting, yet all coming together at the end. The sheer freedom of technique and uninhibited splash of colours. The method in the madness.

So when @myabstracthouse asked me to choose a painting from their online store to review, I was thrilled. I love dotting my walls with art of various genres, and the beauty of abstract art is that it can blend in with any colour scheme, any decor and in any room. I chose the Abstract 261 Art print with a white frame and I absolutely love it! SWIPE TO SEE IT UP CLOSE.

Here are some of the reasons why:

🖼 This fine art print adds a subtle splash of colour to my lounge area. Part of Abstract Houses's new Infinity collection, the painting extends to the edge of the frame and seamlessly merges into the background.

🖼 Although it is a much larger print size, it has excellent colour reproduction and fade resistance. The glass shield acts as both a protective cover as well as lends a glossy sheen to the artwork.

🖼 There are various print sizes available, making it easy to fit any wall or space.

🖼 You can choose a print with no frame or with different coloured frames (black, white, grey, oak) to match the decor of your room.

🖼 The quality of the artwork as well as the frame surpassed my expectations; I give full marks to the overall quality of the product.

Do check out their website https://abstracthouse.com/ or follow them on Instagram @myabstracthouse for a wide range of art prints, paintings and canvas art, ranging from botanical to Impressionist to contemporary.

As a #mumblogger, I love connecting with other mum As a #mumblogger, I love connecting with other mums across the globe. Sharing stories, tips, advice, rants. Because wherever in the world we are, and whatever aged children we have, we've all 'been there and done that' at some point. We're all in this parenting journey together... 👩‍👧‍👧👩‍👧‍👧👩‍👧‍👧

So when I got introduced to #saturdaysocial by @workingmumlife.mybalancingact, I joined in and have made so many virtual mum friends across the globe since. It's great reading how other mums deal with the same issues; learning new kid-friendly recipes and craft ideas (considering my love-hate relationship with craft!) and generally joining in the banter about being Mum!!!

So if you want to be part of the #socialsaturday action, join in every Saturday on @workingmumlife.mybalancingact account . It's a great way to connect with similar accounts and boost your engagement✨✨✨
