Quirky (and cost-effective) birthday party ideas for your child

Kids look forward to their birthdays, especially if they’re celebrating with a party. However, all the extra planning and financial pressure can be quite stressful for parents, so I have teamed up with a venue hire company in Watford to share some quirky birthday party ideas for those of you who are lacking inspiration. 

1. Hire a swimming pool

Most kids love swimming, so hiring a pool for an hour or so could be a great option! You’d probably be looking to spend around £100-200 to hire out a pool for about an hour, which might differ depending on how many children you want to invite and whether or not you want to add inflatables. Get some quotes from your local venues to compare prices.

2. Do a disco party!

You could look into hiring out your village hall or similar for a disco, which is usually reasonably priced, but don’t forget to budget for food and drinks and a DJ. Your child and their friends can play lots of games at the disco, like pass the parcel and musical chairs. You can also rent a professional photo booth like Reflected Memories at the venue so your child and their friends can take some awesome, fun and memorable photos together. These can be great keepsakes and part of the return gift as well.

3. Pickeball fun

Pickeball is fast becoming the most sought after game, for kids and adults alike. And its no surprise, as it combines elements of ping-pong, tennis and badminton and is loads of fun. If your child and his friends enjoy the game, you could hire a pickeball court for a few hours and let them play to their heart’s content. If you want to go a step further, you could perhaps give out a pickleball jersey as return gifts.

4. Baking at Home

For a more intimate and potentially cheaper party, you could invite your child’s closest friends over for baking and cake decorating activities at home. If you don’t like the idea of the kids using your kitchen, you could just buy some plain cupcakes and other treats and get them to decorate those.

5. Picnic in the park

Another more stress-free option is to take a group of your child’s friends to the local park for a picnic – load up with lots of snacks and organise various party games. Or, just let them run around playing tag or football or play in the playground. This is quite an affordable option because you’ll only have to think about providing the food and drink, rather than hiring a venue or entertainment.

6. Have a movie night

Another intimate and inexpensive option is to have a movie night at home with a few close friends. You could take this to the next level and look into companies that provide projectors and big screens for a proper cinematic experience!
