A parent’s guide to the GCSE’s
As a parent, it may be difficult to understand what GCSEs are and how best to support your child before and during their exams. However, the good news is that there are many things that can be done to ensure your child is well prepared for this stressful time and to help relieve some of the pressure that they may be experiencing. This could be making them healthy and nutritious meals every day, helping them make a revision plan or getting them a private tutor. Here is some advice from an SAT tutor on what GCSEs are and how to prepare your child for them.
Make sure you’re up-to-date
GCSEs are the exams taken at the end of secondary school, consisting of up to 10 or more GCSEs at a time. Different schools use different exam boards and have different methods to help their students achieve their goals. It is important that you stay as informed as possible with any school updates through emails, social media or direct contact with the school. Remember to gather any important information such as exam dates and boards.
Get additional help from a tutor if you think your child needs it
If you are worried that your child is falling behind in class and isn’t doing as well as they could be, consider hiring a private tutor to help your child a few times in the week. There are plenty to choose from online and in person too.
Don’t underestimate the importance of revision
As the exams approach, it is crucial that your child has already started their revision. The real secret to good exam results is great planning. As a parent, you can sit with your child and help them write up a revision plan that works alongside their current schedule. Remember to include short breaks and time for your child to rejuvenate, in order for them to focus well when they study. Ensure the plan includes days off as well so that your child can continue to do things that they enjoy alongside.
