5 things you should get professionally inspected annually

There could be hidden problems in your life that need fixing that you’re not even aware of. Issues like leaky roofs or tooth decay can often go undetected. Only when these problems become serious do they become noticeable. Catching these problems early could allow you to fix them before they cause major damage and get expensive to repair. Annual inspections by a professional are one of the best ways to detect these problems. Below are 5 examples of things you should get professionally inspected once a year.

Your car

Cars can develop many hidden issues over the years. Annual MOT inspections are mandatory for all vehicles in the UK and can catch some of these problems – however a MOT is only a partial inspection of your vehicle. For a full inspection of your vehicle, it’s worth also booking an annual service at a local garage. This can help detect issues with alignment, engine parts and exterior details that aren’t covered by an MOT. Any problems that are flagged up can be repaired then and there before they get serious (which could prevent breakdowns and knock-on damage to parts later down the line).

Your HVAC

HVAC units need to be regularly maintained to ensure good air quality, energy efficiency and effective heating/cooling. A lot of HVAC issues can occur without us knowing – which could lead to you unsuspectingly breathing in dirty air or paying unnecessarily high bills. An annual HVAC service can spot these problems so that you can fix them. If you have a warranty on your HVAC, annual inspections may even be required to maintain this warranty.

Your roof

Many homeowners don’t realise that they should ideally be getting their roof inspected every year. Roof damage often goes undetected but can cause major issues such as letting in rain and pests, causing faster heat loss in winter or even threatening the structural integrity of your home. If you’ve recently had a new roof installed, free annual inspections may be provided as part of a guarantee. Autumn is typically the best time to get your roof inspected.

Your teeth

When was the last time you went for a dental check-up? Dental professionals recommend seeing a dentist at least once per year. Such check-ups could help to spot dental issues early before they develop into painful infections or cause major decay. It’s possible that you may have no issues with your teeth at all. But just in case, it’s worth arranging a check-up.

Your eyes

Regular eye tests at an optician’s clinic can check that your vision is good. If you’re relatively young and have never had any vision issues, an annual eye test may not be necessary. However, if you’re aged 40 or over, or you currently have sight problems, it’s recommended that you book an eye test at least every two years (but ideally every year). This can ensure that you have the right prescription and could be important for you and other people’s safety if you are a driver.
