How to get out of the 9-5 rut – and find your dream job!

If you are bored of your current 9-5 that gives you no enjoyment whatsoever, have a think about what you would really love to do. You are never too old to follow your dreams even if it means heading back to school to get some more qualifications.

There are tons of jobs out there that could supply you with a hundred per cent job satisfaction, and you would wake up each day actually looking forward to going to work. Here are some options to consider.

1. Teacher

If you have a passion for teaching and love children then becoming a teacher is definitely the job for you. Young minds are amazing and watching as children grow and develop is a wonderful thing. You could work in a primary school or brave it and head to secondary schools. There is a huge shortage of teachers nowadays as nobody wants to do the training and potential teachers worry about the amount of work and minimal amount of pay.

If you have more than one passion why not combine them? Say you really enjoy ballet; you could become a ballet teacher and teach what you excel at and love to others. The Royal Academy of Dance offers a programme that is the only one in the UK that combines ballet and education. You will learn from the best to become the best.

2. Sports Coach

You may have a love for all things sport, if this is the case then why not become a sports coach? You get to teach something you’re passionate about and watch as individuals continuously improve and grow. You can decide to teach kids or professional adults, depending on who you are better with. One bonus about being a sports coach is you can do it part-time if you need to do another job. Sports coach jobs don’t always pay well so you may need to supplement your income

3. Travel Guide

If you love to travel to new places and learn all about the area and the history then being a travel guide is the perfect job for you. Covid-19 briefly put a stop to travel and tour guides but now with things reopening and travel restrictions being lifted you can safely look into this as a job option again.

You can spend a little time in one place showing everyone around and then move on to the next big adventure. There is no set time you need to stay in one country. If you live in a big city like London, for example, you wouldn’t even need to travel, you can become a tour guide right there.

4. Zookeeper

Did you ever go to the zoo or on safari as a child and wanted to work with the animals? Well now is your chance. You can become a wildlife worker at one of the many zoos all over the world. You will get the chance to nurture them, and watch them grow and develop all while having a close bond with them. You will be feeding the animals, cleaning out their enclosures, and petting them. You will end up feeling completely content with your job.

So if you have a particular passion, there is nothing stopping you from turning it into your dream job.
