Everything you need to know about owning a smoothie bar

When it comes to providing a healthy place to eat or drink some good food, there’s nothing like a smoothie bar. It’s a place where you know you’re getting more organic stuff in your system to help your overall wellness. Whether you like to have a tasty fruit smoothie as a treat, a green smoothie for your cleansing, or a protein smoothie to put on muscle, you have plenty of options. Here are some things to know about this place.

Costs

When you’re planning to set up a smoothie bar, here some costs to consider:

  • Rent/down payment
  • Licensing
  • Marketing
  • Supplies
  • Overhead
  • Location

Let’s say you’re in a big area, such as Santa Monica. You want to think about the different walks of life coming into your store. Are you looking to compete with the majors or going for more of an independent route that has a niche? With that being said, always think of your core audience.

Target market

A smoothie bar is for people who are generally concerned about their health. You may have people who have never dieted in their entire life. They may be a bit new to eating healthy, and a good smoothie can help them supplement their diet with something delicious but nutritious.

On the other hand, you will have people who are amped up for fitness. Maybe they’re trying to cut weight for a fitness competition, so they need a green smoothie to help them stay lean while still keeping the proteins.

Truck or shop?

Another thing to consider is whether you want your bar to be in a truck or shop.

A truck would be great because you can be mobile and find out where people are usually at. However, you may need a permit to be at specific locations. Depending on the space and who owns it, the person may want a piece of your profit. However, you can move at your own pace and do this with just one partner.

The benefit of a shop is you’ll have one central location where everyone can go to. Advertising is easier as well. However, you’ll have a lot more ongoing expenses from employee salaries, rent, utilities, etc. If you have a great reputation, you can beat out your competitors in a one-stop smoothie shop for everything.

Whether it’s a truck or shop, running a smoothie bar can be quite exciting.
