5 fun ideas to transform your kids bedroom (and make it more funky!!!)

For a child, his or her bedroom is their safe place, perhaps even a sanctum of sorts. It’s not just a room where they sleep but one where they play and learn and grow. It’s their reading haven, their Lego-making space, their art and craft room… a child’s bedroom is so much more than just a room!

So, why not make it as colourful and funky as their personality? Why stick to just white walls, a plain bed, wardrobe and desk when you can do so much more? Here are a few ideas to infuse fun and add character into your child’s bedroom.

1. Get a bunk bed or mid-sleeper

Make sleep-time more enticing with a bunk bed or a mid-sleeper. Not only do these add an element of fun to the bedroom, but are great for smaller rooms too as most come drawers, shelves, a desk and sometimes even a wardrobe attached to them. Some also come with an attached slide for toddlers; others with an in-built den below (or you can make your own den too). 2. Bean bag chairs – fun and functional

My personal favourite (perhaps because it’s something that I can also use!). Instantly funk up your child’s room (or any space for that matter) with a bean bag or bean bag chair.

3. Go wild on the walls

There is so much you can do to walls to brighten up your child’s bedroom instantly. Choose a bright coloured paint, or a themed wallpaper, to add instant life to the room. Accentuate with wall art or wall stickers that your child can relate to (example: a jungle theme for an animal lover or a space theme for a space-intrigued child).

If you want to keep it simple, just decorate the walls with posters, photo frames and shelves dotted with their favourite books, Lego creations or soft toys.

4. Go neon or glow-in-the-dark

Nothing is more exciting for a child than something that glows in the dark! Imagine lying on your bed and seeing the stars and moon glow down on you, from your own ceiling. There are plenty of glow-in-the-dark options for a child’s bedroom (that can be stuck onto the ceiling or walls) so take a cue from their likes and surprise them!

Or, just get a funky and fun neon sign that will add colour, fun and life to their room.

5. A teepee tent or hammock – if you have the space

Kids love a space they can call their own – where even an adult needs a password or permission to enter! It can be where they play or read or just wind down at the end of the day. Teepee tents are perfect hideouts for little ones, so if there is an unused corner in their room, this would make a great addition. Who knows, they might even invite you over for a sleepover in it!

Another cool option, if you have the space in your kids’ room, is to put up a hammock. It would be the coolest place for your child to relax and unwind after a long day at school, or it could even become their special ‘reading space’.
