Whether you’re traveling from Toronto to Edmonton or making the trip all the way over to Victoria, B.C., the worst mistake you could make is to not stop and enjoy the journey.  Canada is a highly varied and fascinating country with a number of breath-taking sights. So if you’re on a road trip across the country and have some wiggle room, here are the top spots to stop at en route.

Icefield Parkways, Alberta

Banff may often outshine Jasper because they’re in the same province, but Jasper has views that would stun anyone.  While enjoying the beautiful wildlife, you can take a drive down a long and smooth strip of road that will allow mountains to unfold ahead of you.  If you’re from a flat area of the country, this can be overwhelming and moving.  These massive mountains hold beautiful secrets like waterfalls, giant fluffy goats, and landlocked icebergs that you can touch with your bare hand.

Although you have to pay an entrance fee that varies based on the time of the year, Jasper National Park is worth every penny.  Enjoy staying in a historic hotel, eating breakfast from a cute bagel shop in the morning, and bopping along to music in the dance hall.  This is a great place to spend an afternoon if you’re trying to slip away from looking at Calgary homes for sale.

Interlake Region, Manitoba

Manitoba has been sorely overlooked when it comes to its road trip potential.  The Interlake region is an awe-inspiring array of lakes and islands that come together to create some of the most incredible scenery you could ever see.  Full of only tiny towns and municipalities, there’s something personal and sweet about this area.  You can buy artisan-made items, take pictures with beautiful untouched nature, and drive away feeling better for having been there.  Manitoba is so much more than most people think it is, and the Interlake Region proves that.

Grasslands National Park, Saskatchewan

We’ve discussed mountains and lakes; it’s now time to talk about the natural beauty of the plains.  This park, just North of America’s Montana, has a lot going for it.  Large fun buffalo roam across swaying grasslands with the brightest blue sky you’ll ever see.  Although some may think this would be boring, watching the wind ripple through the grass at the end of summer can feel like the best way to welcome autumn and winter.
